Formerly a U.S. Department of Energy defense manufacturing facility, the Young – Rainey STAR Center emerged as the first successful conversion of a closing U.S. plant to a new, commercial, high technology center. Numerous public and private entities partnered to redevelop and transition the aging facilities to commercially viable space. Several national, state and regional awards acknowledge this tremendous achievement for the region and the economic development opportunities created through the STAR program.
Today, the STAR Center is owned and operated by the government of Pinellas County, Florida. It is conveniently located at the western gateway of Florida's High Tech Corridor. Space is currently leased to over 40 companies providing synergistic opportunities in the areas of: analytic and environmental testing, custom hybrid micro-electronics, circuit design and manufacturing, and forensic sciences among others.
